What’s Going On?

A question most of us have been asking for much of 2020!

By now I am sure everyone knows the 40th London Marathon did not quite go to plan this year, at least in the usual format, so after years of trying to get in it seems I am going to be waiting a bit longer.

After the race was moved from the original date of 26 April to 4 October, it as decided for safety reasons his would only be open to the elite runners. As it turned out this was not such a bad thing, given it ended up being 19 loops around St James Park in the middle of a storm, producing the wettest (and sadly dullest) race to date.

A separate option was given for people to instead run a virtual marathon, which whilst a great opportunity to raise money for charity, was not for me so I decided to wait and focus any fundraising on the main event.

Those who had previously secured entries in 2020 were asked to apply for our preference of 2021, 22 or 23 entries, and naturally I requested the soonest one. Whilst none were guaranteed, I was therefore delighted to receive confirmation from Cancer Research UK last week that my place had been confirmed for the October 21 race!

So it looks like another year of training to get into tip top shape for what should be one of the biggest sporting events of next year, and plenty more time for extra posts on this site. Please keep following for more random thoughts and stories, and any donations to the fundraising target would be very welcome!
